What is validation?
Validation is a term that, especially in connection to texts, documents, and websites, refers to an activity that verifies the suitability of use by people with medical disabilities. Texts, documents, and websites that successfully pass the validation test are suitable for use and correct understanding even by people with disabilities (blind, weak-sighted, colorblind…).
How does validation work?
Validation is a verification process that verifies compliance with accessibility rules according to valid standards. The result is a protocol that talks about the quality of compliance with individually selected standards. It is necessary to use appropriate software tools for the validation process as well as have knowledge of which standard is suitable for which type of text, document, and website, also taking into account its context.
How does DoqUA work?
In DoqUA we use various standard tools for working with documents, such as Adobe Acrobat, Nitro PDF, as well as automated tools such as PDFix SDK, which assist in working more efficiently.
At the same time, DoqUA uses a set of its own software tools that were developed for this purpose.
Tools

We use state-of-the-art tools, have specialized checklists at our disposal, and also do extensive user testing using appropriate supportive technologies to ensure, that specific standard criteria of accessibility are met.

Remediation
What is remediation?
Remediation is a term used in the world of information technology, especially in connection with the editing of inaccessible texts, documents, etc. to an accessible form in accordance with applicable standards (e.g. PDF / UA, WCAG). An accessible form is one, that allows for correct use and understanding of texts, documents, and websites to all people, even the ones with disabilities (blind, weak-sighted, colorblind…).
Remediation is a process of re-shaping inaccessible documents, which have been created by methods not in accordance with the current rules of accessibility (e.g. scanning of original paper documents, etc.) into accessible documents compliant with applicable standards. This process is complex, time-consuming and it requires that the person responsible for the conversion of the document into an accessible form has the appropriate technical skills and understands the content of the document being converted. Only then can he correctly describe the content of the document and create an adequate accessible document.
Remediation uses various standard tools for working with documents, such as Adobe Acrobat, Nitro PDF, as well as automated tools, e.g. PDFix SDK, which help you work efficiently.
DOQUA also uses a set of its own software tools which were developed solely for this purpose.
Under all circumstances, the correct remediation of documents must be ensured by a person who is an expert in working with documents and who can guarantee the quality in terms of standards and the content of the document.
Why is remediation necessary?
We are aware of the pitfalls related to creating accessible documents and we know, that achieving compliance with accessibility standards is very challenging. Finding a way to properly apply all accessibility standards and guidelines is difficult. On the other hand, accessible documents allow the user of the software and assistive technological devices a better understanding of the content. Defining the basic structure allows screen readers not only to convert text into speech but also format and resize content so that it is more visible and possibly more suitable for smaller display devices (smartphone, tablet, etc.). For example, setting the order of the cards in a form and help users to fill it out conveniently.

How does remediation work?
Thanks to a combination of modern automated tools and manual effort, including human work, we can make your documents accessible regardless of their complexity.

What are the results of remediation?
We will send back an accessible document, which will be checked by our validator and assisting technological tools. The document will be presented in an unaltered state, as intended by the author, improved by the characteristics of accessibility. You will also receive a final report about the control of PDF(PAC) document accessibility that does not contain any errors.
